EXPERIENCES

Puglia is a fascinating place. Picturesque cities hide thousands of years old historical pedigrees; the dramatically broken coastlines have harbored fisherfolk and pirates for millennia and today offer some of the Italy’s loveliest beaches. This region also offers a sublime climate, an excellent culinary tradition, but l above all, proud and generous people, eager to share all of this with you.

Trullo a ll’éra is located in the idyllic Itria valley. This rolling green valley is crisscrossed by dry-stone walls and houses (better known as trulli), vineyards, almond and olive groves, and winding country lanes.

Many of the towns in this region (Ceglie Messapica, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Ostuni and Cisternino, just to mention some of them) have an old quarter which offers a picturesque scene of winding alleys, stunning white houses, blood-red geraniums and streets paved with smooth ivory-coloured stones. There are also graceful baroque and rococo buildings and of course trulli, one of the most iconic sights of the Apulian landscape and of the Itria Valley in particular. These cone-roofed, dry-stone houses are considered of outstanding universal value because represent a remarkable example of prehistoric building techniques that allowed these buildings to survive throughout the centuries till current days. For this reason, the trulli of the city of Alberobello are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Of particular interest is also the town of Grottaglie (our beloved home town). It is one of the best artisanal ceramic centers in Italy and famous around the world. The ceramics district it is scattered with small picturesque workshops and galleries.

Each of these towns offers numerous excellent restaurants serving locally produced, seasonal foods and excellent local wines. Don’t miss the farmer market and the numerous artisan shops selling local produced delights.
